Software you won't need to rewrite in two years: engineering discipline

Specifications, automated tests and CI/CD reduce the risk of a costly rewrite later.

Our services: from automated coding to a business AI knowledge base

Custom business software, AI integration, SaaS and maintenance — all from one workshop.

Fixed price, fixed deadline and 100% source code ownership

No vendor lock-in: the code, the documentation and the infrastructure are documented as yours.

The problem

Software projects don't fail because of the code.

They fail because of vague scope, manual busywork, and having no one to touch the system after handover.

45%

Large IT projects run over budget by this much on average, while delivering 56% less value than planned.McKinsey & Oxford University, 2012
  1. 01

    Vague scope

“We'll figure it out as we go.” With us, every proposal comes with a technical specification and acceptance criteria — both signed.

  2. 02

    Manual routine work

Boilerplate, tests, reviews, deployments. We have automated this part, so engineering time goes into your actual business logic.

  3. 03

    Orphaned systems

The work doesn't end at handover. We don't release a project without a maintenance retainer, monitoring and documentation.

What we build

Five things we do — and we see each of them through.

01

Automated software engineering

An AI-assisted development pipeline: code scaffolding, automated testing, static analysis and CI/CD. The machine work gets faster; the decisions stay human.

  • Generated scaffolding with manual review
  • Automated test and lint gates on every PR
  • CI/CD for staging and production
02

Custom software

Internal business systems, client portals, data stores and integrations — wherever off-the-shelf software has become an obstacle.

  • Sales & inventory software
  • CRM software
  • Finance & accounting software
  • Business administration (ERP) software
03

Platforms & websites

SaaS platforms, marketplaces, ecommerce and marketing sites. Measurable speed, real accessibility and a structure search engines can read.

  • SaaS and multi-tenant platforms
  • Ecommerce and payment integrations
  • Campaign and product pages
04

Business AI integration

We don't drop a chatbot into the corner of your website. We wire AI into your existing processes: document processing, an internal knowledge base, a customer service assistant — on your own data.

  • Document and invoice processing
  • Internal knowledge base with search (RAG)
  • Customer service and lead assistant
05

Maintenance & operations

Updates, security patches, monitoring, incident handling and further development — under a monthly retainer with agreed response times.

  • Monitoring and incident alerts
  • Security and dependency updates
  • Monthly development allowance
Process

Four steps, each closed in writing.

We don't ask for commitment before you can see exactly what you get, for how much, and by when.

  1. 0130 min

    Discovery

We work out what the real problem is, which systems already exist and what success looks like in numbers. If we're not the right answer, we'll say so.

    Output: Short assessment

  2. 021–3 days

    Proposal and technical plan

Fixed price, fixed deadline, plus a technical specification and acceptance criteria.

    Output: Proposal and specification

  3. 03Weekly cycles

    Build in sprints

A working version you can try in the demo environment at the end of every sprint.

    Output: Working version every week

  4. 04End of project

    Handover and maintenance

Acceptance report, documentation, training. Then a maintenance retainer if you want one — or a clean handover if your own team takes it from here.

Output: Source code, acceptance report and documentation

AI integration

For us, AI is a tool, not a product category.

We use it in two places: in our own development process, to deliver faster and cheaper, and in your processes, wherever it replaces measurable working hours.

On our side

This is why a fixed price is possible.

  • Code scaffolding with review, not instead of it
  • Automated test and migration generation
  • Codebase analysis when taking over legacy systems
  • Documentation that is updated together with the code

On your side

This is what we build into your business.

  • Contract, invoice and email processing
  • An internal knowledge base that answers from your own documents
  • A customer service assistant with human handover
  • Data processed within the EU, with an auditable log

For every AI solution we document where the data goes, who has access, and what happens when the model is wrong. That is not an optional appendix.

Who we work with

SMEs, startups and enterprises ask different questions.

SMEs

“Everything runs on Excel and email, and it's starting to hurt.”

We assess the most expensive manual process first and automate that one. A small step with a fast payback — the rest can follow.

Typical first project: 3–6 weeks

Startups

“We need a product we can show to investors and customers.”

A working MVP you can build on later — not a throwaway prototype. The code and the infrastructure are yours from day one.

Typical MVP: 6–12 weeks

Enterprises

“We have an old system nobody dares to touch.”

We take it over, map it, surround it with tests and modernise it step by step.

Typical assessment: 2–4 weeks

Engagement models

Three models, the same team.

The price always follows the assessed scope — which is why there are no numbers here.

Fixed-price project

When the scope can be locked.

Fixed price and deadline based on a signed technical specification. Changes are handled as written change requests, not verbally.

Who is behind it

One workshop, one person accountable: Tamás Horváth.

SzoftMűhely is the sole proprietorship of Tamás Horváth, based in Szekszárd, Hungary: custom software development, business AI integration and software maintenance, delivered in English and Hungarian. On every project the same person scopes the work with you, writes the specification and is accountable for the handover — there is no agency layer in between.

If a project needs more hands, we say so up front in the proposal, and the team composition is written into the contract. The source code, documentation and infrastructure remain yours in every case.

FAQ

What most people ask.

Who owns the source code?

You do. At handover the complete source code, the infrastructure description and the documentation are transferred to you. There is no monthly fee for accessing your own system.

How much does it cost?

It depends on the scope, which is why there is no price list here. After discovery we give you a fixed price, split by milestone. Discovery and the proposal are free.

What if the requirements change along the way?

That is the normal case, not the exception. In a fixed-price project we handle it as a written change request (new scope, new price, new deadline).

Can you work on an existing legacy system?

Yes. First we map the codebase and surround the critical parts with tests; only then do we make changes.

Where will the data be?

By default on infrastructure within the EU. For AI solutions we always record in writing which data goes where and for how long, and who has access. If the process involves personal data, we sign a data processing agreement.
